The end of the Johnson government started with deciding to protect Tory MP Owen Paterson by dismantling the standards system. Such disdain for checks and balances is at the root of contemptuous corrupt government: Partygate, second jobs, sexual misconduct, rape, bullying, sleaze and scandal. Ignore the rules, change the rules, abolish the rules. That’s how you do it. The sense of privilege and entitlement meant that any attempt to shine a light is met with three words: “how dare you?” Well, here are our three words: “cheese and wine”. Consume it.
